Record crowds soaked up all the flavours and colours of Italy at the Harvey Harvest Festival on Sunday. Crowds filled Snell Park to enjoy performances from top Perth acts LA Gold and Nikki Dagostino and traditional songs from The Joys of the Women Italian Choir. Enthusiastic stompers battled it out in the junior and open Go for 2&5 WA Grape Stomping Championships and for the first time, a celebrity stomp featuring local radio stars and members of the South West Slammers basketball team was held. Other highlights included performances from children’s entertainer Sparkles, the WA Police Pipe Band, local Harvey performer Rosabella Hewer and Australind piano accordionist Zeppy Studzinski. Festival organiser Monique Warnock said each year crowd numbers continued to grow. “The festival is a free event and families really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of browsing through market stalls, enjoying entertainment and street theatre in what is the only Italian festival in the South West,” Ms Warnock said.
